A fire that killed hundreds of goats housed in a barn in East Yorkshire was caused by a falling heat lamp, the fire service has said.

The blaze, on Marsh Road, Ottringham, on Monday afternoon, prompted a major response from Humberside Fire and Rescue, with six fire engines and an aerial ladder platform responding to the incident.

The fire service said about 800 goats perished in the blaze.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the fire service said: "The fire started accidentally after a heat lamp fell over and came into contact with straw."
